  • Start from scratch (basics), or at any advanced level. I'll zone-in on your current level and we'll take it up a notch at a time from there.
  • We'll study EVERY BEAT PATTERN known to man . . . (and then some)!
  • Jam with YOUR favorite recordings as you master 'ear' techniques.
  • You'll hardly realize that you are studying, as we have fun with rudimental fills and solo techniques.
  • You'll learn to read, but it won't be boring! In fact, you'll hardly notice you're reading. I've discovered the secret to 'natural' learning. It's fun!
  • Later, as we continue to jam with your favorite recordings, we'll delve as deeply as you might care to go into deeper rhythm theory. Fascinating stuff!
  • I've been playing professionally for over 50 years and teaching since 1965.
  • FUN . . . is the secret to learning. It's my specialty! Once you've discovered the fun, everything else happens like magic!
  • Drumming will become your passion and obsession. Try me!
As a student, you will discover the thrills of playing almost entirely by ear in the beginning. You will quickly (within 3 to 4 weeks) learn to listen, decipher, and then play along with almost all YOUR favorite recordings, in just the same way that we professional drummers do it every day (and night) of our careers.

As your teacher, my soul intention is to prepare you for a full, and hopefully lucrative career, behind a drumset. If you only want to do it as a hobby, that's your decision, but I will still aspire to prepare you to compete with professional drummers on virtually any level.

As the lessons progress, and as your abilities increase, we will delve deeper into the finer points of reading notation, rudiments and rudimental-applications (around the set). You will learn to manipulate and APPLY the rudiments to modern music, in a FUN way, along with all YOUR favorite recordings and musical styles. You'll hardly realize that you are practicing and developing. You'll hopefully just have fun, only to realize later that it actually qualifies as hard work and practice, towards total mastery of the instrument.

It will be FUN! My teaching methods are unlike anything you may encounter elsewhere. We'll study improvised solos, and in general . . . I can and will teach you everything you will ever want to learn about drumming.

You will learn all the current and popular beats along with billions of beats and rhythm patterns that have not yet had their day in the sun. This will eventually include the entire time-signature system, and the 18 quintillion beat structures that exist in both, odd and even time.

Yes! There are that many beat patterns, and I'll show you exactly HOW they exist. We (all drummers collectively) never learn them all. We'll focus primarily on the beat and roll-patterns that are currently popular. I GUARANTEE FUN! If you are not enjoying the lessons, you may stop at anytime. I do not think you will want to do that, once you get a taste of what I have to show you.

MY RATE IS: $18.00 per 30-minutes. I prefer to teach 1-hour lessons once per week when I'm driving to the homes. It just makes more sense, (but I'm negotiable on that issue).

DRUM SET RENTALS: I rent full drum sets to my qualified and responsible students. The rate for the drumsets I have available, range from $50 to $65 per month. (Some of my rental sets are of higher quality than others.) We can also discuss a rent-to-own option.

I do not rent drumsets over-night, or by the week. It's just too risky. I only rent to those trusted students who are studying with me on a weekly basis.

Incidentally, as a parting thought, I am the author of the five drumming courses listed on the following web page: Five drumming courses, by Bill Powelson Order my courses from the web page if you prefer to go it on your own. Those online/computerized lessons are essentially the same material I will be teaching you privately in your home.
